Charities

Our School Council play a big part in making the choice on which charity to support each year.

This year we have chosen the following charities;

  • CAFOD
  • The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
  • Children in Need
  • Collier Row Food Bank
  • MacMillan Cancer Support
  • Motor Neurone Disease Association
  • St Francis Hospice

As well as fundraising, the children have an opportunity to write a prayer, say a prayer as an individual, in a class setting and also within whole school collective worship.   Charity does not necessarily need to be physical. The act of praying for someone or a group is an act of charity. Prayer forms an important part of advocacy and charity in our school.

Gospel reflections

Our whole school assembly on a Monday makes use of the Wednesday Word resources as a focus for our collective worship.  From this session, the children have a question to ponder for the week – thinking about how they can take God’s message out into the world.  The Gospel and the children’s reflections are then the focus of the Friday assembly each week. The midweek assembly makes use of the resources of TenTen Collective Worship and prayer – again focus is on scripture and reflection.

Rosary Club

Our School Chaplains lead a Rosary Club throughout the months of October and May for our KS2 children.  For the children and staff, it is time to be still, calm and prayerful and reflect on our faith and take time out of our busy week to pray.

Community Projects

St Patrick’s, along with the Parish of Corpus Christi are the single largest contributor to our local Food Bank in Collier Row.  This drive for this charity is led by our Year 5 children in the Harvest Assembly.  Our focus is on “Community & Participation”  – The Common Good

“Let us be concerned for one another,

To help one another,
To show love and to do good, not forgetting
To gather as a community and encourage
Each other as you see the day drawing near.”

 Laudato Si

Through his encyclical, Laudato Sí , Pope Francis gives us practical advice on how to tackle these world problems. He starts by asking each one of us, “What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children growing up?”

As Catholics this is a time to pray and act, a time to renew our commitment to live in right relationship with God, creation and each other. Care of our Common Home is the call of Laudato Si` to each of us, to consider how we can become stewards of creation, for positive action and renewal.

We have found that our children are very much interested in looking after our local and wider community – always looking for ways of improving things.  We start off small by recycling and reusing in school and take it out into the world.  The realisation for children that every small step adds up, that together we can all make a difference.  Our focus on Eco-week has been “Caring for Creating.”

“Ask the animals and the will teach you,
Or the birds of the air and they will tell you;
Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you.
In His hand is the life of every creature
And the breath of all mankind.”

The Oscar Romero Award supports schools in realising and living the unique calling of a Catholic school to become an evangelising centre by empowering pupils to be the change they want to see in the world by putting their faith into practical action. We are currently working toward the Participator Accreditation.
